It looks like something I have in my reef. Does it feel slimey/leathery to touch?
If it is the same it will grow fairly rapidly and can out compete corals for space. I remove as much as I can when it gets too rampant. You will have to scrub the rock work to fully remove it.
I ain't a great fan of it as it can smother the LR and stop it doing it's job.
Cheers

Aye, you'll be suprised at what just 'appears' on live rock. It'll have come in as a small black speck, that you won't have noticed, and gone from there.

I too spotted something like this on my live rock. At first I thought it was some leach like creature as that is what shape it was but since it has never moved I just assumed it was part of the rock. Since seeing the photo here though I realise that it has actually got bigger. What is it though? creature algae or what?

I beleive it is a type of sponge, however if left it can become a nuisance.
