Hi all, which filter media would you recommend for a D&D 90ltr Nano reef? This is a new tank just set up yesterday (04/03/10) and running stock media. Tank will in time only have lots of LR, coral, CUC and a red scooter blenny. I was thinking of removing stock media before the tank starts to cycle. Will keep foam and carbon and add lava rock and phos remover. any other advice. i'm not used to keeping such a small marine tank and gave up keeping marines about 6 years ago after many happy years keeping marine fish and corals, so advice please on latest ideas.

Hi Peter,

Glad you dipped your top in and decided on a tank. Media wise ditch it all... foam, bio-balls the lot and use Rowaphos(or any other phos remover) and carbon as required. Some people use LR rubble in the back, I did too to start with but it had gunk build up and imo actually added more to my params than it took away. Since removing the LR rubble my params are more stable however that could also be due to the extra 20 litres I added with my overhead DSB/fuge.

Still if I was to do it all again I would ditch everything and only use whats needed in the rear chambers and when its needed. I hear good things about zeo stones going in the back too however I'm not fully clued up on the entire Zeo method but I think there is a way to just use the stones without the entire dosing regime but don't quote me.

Hi again Rikki.
Again thanks for the advice. I will bin the stock itams and just add some floss to remove particals (wash it out weekly) and Rowaphos. Just purchased some egg crate today to give good flow under the coral/living rock. Added 1.5kg of LR today (running 25c and 1.024 salinity, PH etc normal.) will add another 1.5 kg LR tomorrow. managed to get some good LR with lots assorted marine growth on it. Any photos of your tank on here? Regards Peter

NP Peter,

Sounds like pics are in need sooner than you would like to upload them if the LR is as nice as it sounds.

my tanks is on the Members Tank board under Yet Another Nano Diary thread though its in dire need of an update.
